So often, time together as a family can be eroded by children's activities, work, social and domestic committments, friends and technology.
When we create family time, we give ourselves opportunities to get to know our children. We can appreciate their skills and abilities, strengthen family culture and traditions and value who WE are.
Family time is a chance for discussion and discovery. It gives us a chance to see things from a child's point of view, and ways to raise our children as individual, creative beings. On a one-on-one basis, we have the pleasure of helping our children develop the insight and skills to solve problems, think laterally, or enjoy time away from technology (ie: game boys, Wii, PS3 etc) by reading, drawing or taking a walk together...with the cell phone OFF or at least on mute!
1. Planning ahead for time together
2. Making regular times during the week or weekend where the focus is on people - NOT texting, NOT emailing, NO television and NO social networking websites or media
3. Going shopping together, taking in a movie, going on a picnic, going to a sports game or the museum.
4. Strengthen relationships by spending time with the extended family
The juggle can be rewarding, just remember to take time out for your children, to stop and smell the roses and enjoy life once in a while...your body and your family will love you for it!
